Who we are

Dr. Michael Reinhorn and Dr. Nora Fullington are specialists in the care of patients with hernia in an ambulatory surgery practice focused exclusively on hernia surgery. Together with their physician assistant team, they perform approximately 1000 hernia surgeries every year.

Both surgeons offer a tailored approach for each patient, taking into account individual patient factors to decide if surgery is recommended or not, what type of repair (open, laparoscopic, mesh, non-mesh) is best, and what type of anesthesia is safest. With their extensive experience in multiple different repairs, they have been able to hone techniques and provide repairs that are more catered to the individual patient.

Our focus is on our patients and continuously improving our own surgical techniques and outcomes. We believe that the quality of care we provide is paramount and set the bar for the highest level outcomes. We do this by participating in various hernia societies, studying our own outcomes through a national database, and publishing our data to influence the care of hernia patients nationally and internationally.

Employers

You want the best for your employees!

When it comes to hernia surgery, having the right surgeon can mean the difference between a healthy employee or a pain ridden employee. Having preferred provider relationships with the highest quality physicians sends a message to employers that you are motivated by their best interests. At Boston Hernia, we only perform hernia surgery. This focused approach has led to significantly better outcomes for our patients including less pain, less opioid use, significantly reduced complications, and very low recurrence rates as reported by the national hernia registry in the US (ACHQC). Employers and employees alike will benefit from better care.

Faster Recovery

Employees return to work sooner and healthier

Time lost to prolonged recovery, pain, or other complications like hernia recurrence can be a greater expense than the surgery itself. Costs increase by more than 100% when some complications occur. Over the course of 5,000 hernia surgeries performed by Dr. Reinhorn and Dr. Fullington, we have perfected a fast recovery procedure that returns employees to work and the gym in a few days, with 40% of our patients missing no work at all*. For employees with strenuous jobs, we ensure they are recovered from surgery and stronger than before by partnering with physical therapists in safely returning employees to work.

Virtually Eliminate Complications

Complications after hernia surgery can be costly and debilitating

At Boston Hernia, we have seen many patients who are told by general surgeons that they have a hernia when in fact they have a core muscle injury. No one wants unnecessary surgery - and certainly not one that can result in serious life altering complications. Chronic pain after inguinal hernia surgery occurs 10-15% of the time. Up to 3% of patients have debilitating pain lasting longer than a year. The tragic effects this has on a person, along with the loss of productivity, is a complication that can be avoided! Boston Hernia employs tailored care so each patient's individual needs are carefully considered in planning surgery. Our experienced surgeons employ techniques shown to reduce debilitating chronic pain risk to almost zero.

Streamlined Care

Patients get the care they need when they need it

With contracts in place, injured workers can be seen and get the care they need as soon as any other patient - at Boston Hernia, we see new patients within 3-7 business days. The sooner the patient is seen, the sooner they can transition to their next point of care. Whether it is surgery (usually scheduled within 1-4 weeks of consultation) or physical therapy for a core muscle injury, patients feel reassured they have a plan and are being well cared for.

Fixed Pricing

You can have the best hernia surgeon for a fair price

Surgeries are an expensive event for employees and payers. Boston Hernia's contracted surgery bundles can reduce your costs by as much as 50%. Efficient care practiced at an ambulatory surgery center allows the best value based care possible. By contracting in advance, payers have a go-to solution for hernia surgery. Costs associated with repeated negotiating and back and forth of fee agreements are eliminated.

DEFINING QUALITY IN HERNIA CARE

Boston Hernia was founded to take care of patients with inguinal and umbilical hernias. We see 2000 new patients and repair almost 1000 hernias each year.
Our specialized clinic has moved on from the traditional general surgery model allowing us to focus exclusively on one surgical problem and become international experts in it, providing the very best care to our patients.
