Self-Pay Patients: Pricing and Information

Information on this page applies only to self-pay patients. If you plan to use insurance, please disregard these prices.

WHO IS SELF PAY?

Our team will tell you if you will be self-pay when you schedule your appointment. Self-pay patients are those who do not have health insurance, or those who have a health insurance plan that is out-of-network with the surgeon they are scheduled to see.

OUR GOALS
  • Transparency – We want you to know what you’re paying for before you pay it
  • Affordability – We set prices low and strive to deliver value that exceeds costs
  • Streamlined Process – We offer direct and convenient payment options

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
  • What is the Surgeon/Assistant Fee?
    • The Surgeon/Assistant Fee pays for your surgeon, who is assisted by their PA, to do your surgery. Since Boston Hernia is an independent provider-owned practice, this is the only fee that goes to our practice. It will also cover your standard post-operative appointment with your surgeon. If you have health insurance that is accepted by the surgical facility, you may use it for the other portions of surgery.

  • How do I know if I will need to pay for a surgery bundle?
    • If you have no health insurance, or health insurance that is out-of-network with both Boston Hernia and the surgical facility, we may offer you one of our surgery bundles, which will allow you to pay for all three at once. Boston Hernia is able to offer these bundles at a predetermined rate as part of our negotiation efforts with the surgical facilities we use.

  • When are payments due?
    • For your initial consultation, payment is due at the time of your appointment. You may pay ahead of time using our secure payment partner site, or at the time of your appointment.
    • For surgery, payment is due when you book your surgery appointment.

  • Will I be reimbursed by my health insurance?
    • Out-of-network benefits are highly variable between insurance plans. Boston Hernia is happy to provide you with a detailed receipt for any payments you make so that you may inquire with your insurer. We cannot guarantee that you will be reimbursed and the matter will be solely between you and your insurer.
      • If you are a self-pay patient with Medicare, reimbursement claims will not be permitted. More information will be given to you if applicable.

  • What if I have surgery on more than 1 hernia?
    • If paying for Surgeon/Assistant fees only, our standard charge is $2,250.00 per hernia. If you are a candidate for a bundle package, we will provide you with an individualized price that takes the hernia number into account without increasing the other fees.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS
  • Additional services may be needed and are not included in our fees or bundles. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Pre-surgical diagnostic tests (labs, MRI, X-rays)
    • Specialist consultations for medical risk assessment or management
    • Physical therapy or rehabilitation
    • Unexpected hospital stays
    • Lodging and travel expenses
    • Expenses related to post-surgical complications
  • Completion of an initial consultation does not guarantee that surgery will be offered. Surgery is not always medically appropriate or recommended and some patients may not be candidates for our discounted bundle services.
  • Listed prices are non-negotiable.
  • Boston Hernia does not accept cash as a payment method.
